Distance Calculator: Measure Distance on a Map

Measure the distance between two or more points on a map. Click to drop points along a route and get the total distance in kilometres and miles, straight-line or multi-stop.

Add a point by address above, or click the map. Each point extends the line.

Points: 0

Add two or more points to measure the distance between them.

What is a distance calculator?

A distance calculator measures the length of a line you draw on a map. Click a start point, then each place you want to measure to, and the tool adds up every leg to give a running total. It works for a simple two point straight-line distance or a multi stop path, and reports the result in both kilometres and miles.

Straight-line vs road distance

This tool measures great-circle, straight-line distance between the points you click, which is the honest as the crow flies figure. Real driving or walking distance along roads is usually longer. When you need the true routed distance and travel time along the network, use the travel time map or the MapAtlas Directions and Matrix APIs.

How this tool works

Each click adds a point to the line. We compute the great-circle distance between consecutive points using the haversine formula on the WGS84 ellipsoid and sum the legs. Nothing is sent to a server: the measurement runs entirely in your browser. For bulk distance and travel time between many origins and destinations, the MapAtlas Matrix API returns it through one call.

When you need this

Quick route length checks, running and cycling distance planning, field measurement, logistics leg estimates, property to amenity distances, and any moment you need a fast on-map measurement without opening a full GIS tool.

Frequently asked questions

Click a start point on the map, then click each further point you want to measure to. The tool draws the line and shows the running total distance in both kilometres and miles as you go.

Distance and travel time in your product

The MapAtlas Matrix and Directions APIs return distance and travel time between any points, EU-hosted and GDPR-compliant.
